Medical Device Reprocessing Technician

Department:

Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD)

Status:

Temporary Part Time

Bargaining Unit:

UNIFOR Service

Applications are now being accepted for a MDR Technician. The commitment to this part-time position is 37.5 hours per bi-weekly pay period. The successful applicant will be required to work Monday-Sunday 0700-1500, 0800-1600, 0900-1500 and 1000-1800, including holidays.

 

Job Functions
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established for the assigned department while supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of Erie Shores Healthcare
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information
  • Collect, decontaminate and process for appropriate cleaning, and/or sterilization of reusable supplies from all nursing units and other patient care areas as appropriate.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the department following established procedures.
  • Perform quality control and safety checks as required.
  • Order daily linen requirements; including linen for operating room
  • Deliver linen to patient care areas. Deliver linen to nursing units/departments;
  • Maintain quotas of supplies on each nursing unit (fill exchange carts, top up, deliver as necessary and accurately document the quantities issued).
  • Be responsible for checking and replacing outdated supplies as necessary including disaster supplies and crash carts.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of instruments for tray set-ups.
  • Assist in physical inventory count as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of Hospital’s emergency planning program
  • Communicate effectively, efficiently and in a professional manner
  • Participate in meetings/committees as appointed
  • Promote teamwork
  • Attend appropriate in-service and continuing education.
  • Participate in the orientation of new employees.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO) MDR Techniques Course required
  • Sterile Supply Processing certificate from recognized College preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in sterilization and instrument reprocessing in a hospital setting preferred
  • Knowledge of principles and practice related to techniques
  • Knowledge of sterilization equipment handling
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills essential and the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team with limited supervision
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job including constant walking, standing, bending and lifting moderate to heavy weights
